The challenge
Momio needed to protect a young community without slowing everyday conversation. A strong community with more than a million daily messages across seven languages, with slang, emojis and spelling variations adding complexity.
A social space designed for children
Momio's purpose is to provide a social platform desgined for children aged 7–13. The team wanted children to have a place to communicate and explore social media with safeguards and privacy considerations built around their needs.
Learning to participate responsibly
Momio presents the platform as a place to learn: what to share, what to keep private and what to consider before publishing. The goal is to help children develop responsible habits while giving both children and parents greater confidence in the experience.
Trust and privacy as part of safety
Momio also highlighted to Utopia the importance of understanding how personal information is used and having control over who can access it. This frames safety as more than filtering messages: it also involves privacy, trust and helping young users make informed choices.
Checking messages in real time
Each new message or post goes through an automatic check before publication. Utopia’s model helps identify problems such as bullying, unsafe contact and sexual content, returning a decision within milliseconds.
Technology and human support
Momio’s safety approach combines AI with a human Community & Safety team, reporting and blocking tools. Its character Jack also gives guidance to help young users understand responsible online behaviour. Moderation is part of a wider effort to support a safer community.
